MIRI, March 6: A 46-year-old man died when an excavator allegedly reversed onto him at an estate in Kuala Baram at about 4.20pm yesterday.
The victim has been identified as Selute Sigi. He died on the spot.
According to the state Traffic and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, prior to the incident, a 20-year-old worker was using the excavator to lift timber.
“Selute was standing behind the excavator at the time. He was crushed when the excavator reversed onto him,” said Alexson in a statement.
The operator claimed he was not aware that Selute was standing behind the heavy machinery, Alexson added.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The remains have been brought to Miri Hospital’s morgue for a post-mortem. — DayakDaily
