KUCHING, Apr 7: An accident that occurred on the Lutong Bridge at Jalan Miri–Lutong today resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.08am, and firefighters from the Lutong station were deployed.
It was noted that the accident involved a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle, which crashed into the rear of a lorry that was carrying out road resurfacing works on Lutong Bridge.
“Firefighters extricated the victim using special equipment by cutting the vehicle door, as the victim was trapped in the driver’s seat.
“He was later pronounced dead by a medical team at the scene,” said the report.
The victim was identified as Felix Enteri Lajan @ Telajan. The lorry driver, a 53-year-old local man, did not sustain any injuries.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He also urged members of the public with information regarding the accident to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigating Officer, Inspector Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479 or the nearest police station.
“Road users are advised to always practise prudent driving and comply with road regulations to avoid endangering other road users,” he said. — DayakDaily
