KUCHING, July 7: This year’s Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2022 will emphasis primarily on an individual attributes over a company’s.

Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred) Sarawak in a statement today said in general, it covers amongst others a demonstration of outstanding leadership vision, dedication as well as intelligent risk taking, company milestones with consideration of industry obstacles, and each entrepreneur’s ability to overcome adversity.

“This include corporate culture, values and incentives; financial performance and growth record; social and environmental responsibilities, reputation and contribution to the community that demonstrate the characteristics of a good model corporate citizen; and demonstration of resilience in adapting to the business disruptions,” it said.

The ministry noted, EOYS also provides opportunities for networking and accessing valuable media coverage, raising personal and company profiles.

For instance, the EOYS Adjudicating Committee has nominated recipients of the EOYS Awards to represent Sarawak at the Malaysia EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Awards.

“The nominated Sarawak representative has access to a range of events to help the nominee’s company achieve its potential as well as the opportunity to join a group of illustrious alumni,” it added.

First launched in 2004, this prestigious awards programme is held annually to honour and acknowledge exceptional entrepreneurial talent and leadership.

Organised by Mintred in association with Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) and Ernst & Young (EY), EOYS also aims to recognise the best in business in Sarawak from among the prime movers who drive the State’s path towards economic growth; recognise the success of up-and-coming entrepreneurs, who through their ingenuity, ideas, resourcefulness, commitment and hard work, have built their businesses which contributed to the growth of the State’s economy; and encourage the growth of small and medium scale industries in Sarawak.

The three categories for EOYS 2022 are the Emerging Entrepreneur category for businesses between 2 to 5 years old or entrepreneur is aged 35 or under at the time of close of nomination; Master Entrepreneur category for maintained management excellence over a sustained period, business founded more than 5 years ago; and Excellent Entrepreneur (Beyond Sarawak) category for running a successful business in Malaysia or overseas.

Nominations for the EOYS are now open and may be submitted to SCCI through business associations or individuals, no later than Aug 30, 2022.
