Electricity, water bill discounts for Sarawak consumers extended until Dec 2022

KUCHING, Aug 29: More than 685,000 consumers throughout Sarawak will continue to enjoy discounts on their electricity and water bills for six more months until the end of December 2022.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in announcing Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 9.0 today, said these discounts are an extension of the discounts offered under the previous BKSS packages.


“The Sarawak government will continue with the initiative to provide five to 25 per cent discounts on electricity bills starting July until December 2022.

“The total cost of this electricity bill discount amounts to RM201.76 million and it will be funded by the GPS Sarawak government,” he said in a special press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Domestic consumers will enjoy a 25 per cent discount on their monthly bill, followed by normal commercial businesses (15 per cent), industry I1 and I2 (10 per cent), and Industry I3 (5 per cent).

As for water bills, a discount of 10 to 25 per cent will apply for domestic, commercial, and industry consumers, involving a total cost of RM35.34 million.

Domestic users will enjoy 25 per cent off their monthly bill, while commercial business 15 per cent, and industry sector 10 per cent.

BKSS 9.0 which amounts to almost RM1.0 billion covers five initiatives for a period of six months from July to December 2022.

Apart from electricity and water bill discounts, the other three initiatives are 25 per cent discount on assessment rates, 50 per cent discount for stall rentals, and additional construction materials under the special provisions for Variation of Price (VOP) 2.0. — DayakDaily
