Elderly man succumbs to injuries in accident at Jalan Teku, Sibu

SIBU, April 4: An elderly man succumbed to serious injuries a day after he met with an accident at Jalan Teku here.

The victim has been identified as Ling Yong Kin, 82, of Jalan Gambir, who  breathed his last at 1.35pm yesterday.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the accident is believed to have occurred around 2pm on Friday (April 2) involving two motorcycles in Jalan Teku.


“Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when a motorcycle ridden by two teenagers from the direction of Jalan Quarry towards Pasar Teku lost control and entered the opposite lane. They collided with the motorcycle ridden by the victim, ” he said.

As a result of the accident, the two motorcyclists suffered serious injuries and were taken to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

A 16-year-old pillion rider escaped unhurt.

Stanley said that the old man died at 1.35pm on Saturday while receiving treatment at the hospital.

“Another 19-year-old motorcyclist is still receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital for a fractured thigh bone,” he added.

The case is still being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
