KUCHING, Nov 15: Two new Bills pertaining to carbon management in Sarawak will be presented by the State government during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting next week.

Energy and Environmental Sustainability (Meesty) Sarawak Deputy Minister Dr Hazland Abang Hipni hinted that the two laws would discuss the environment and electricity, Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) reported today.

“We will present two new laws, the first of which is related to electricity and the second is the environment, which will include all matters involving carbon,” he said while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Borneo Environment Conference (BEnConf) 2023 held at a hotel here today, as reported by the news outlet.

According to Dr Hazland, the law is a new matter and has not been addressed in any legal system in Malaysia or Sarawak.

The Energy minister went on to say that the enactment of the law is in line with the Sarawak government’s efforts to further strengthen the use of green energy in the State in an effort to reduce the rise in temperature.

For the record, the DUN Sarawak sitting for 2023 is scheduled to take place from Nov 20 to Nov 29.

Meanwhile, when he was approached by the media following the opening ceremony, he stated that the floating solar project at the Batang Ai Dam has already commenced.
