KUCHING, Dec 8: Fourteen Lodge National Secondary School students received the Gold Awards of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Presented by Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Adam Adli Abd Halim during the accreditation ceremony held at Kompleks MSN, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 7, the awards celebrate youth’s commitment and determination in completing their journey of the Gold award.
The Gold Award requires 12 months to complete, during which the youth build their own activity programmes in five sections: skills, physical, community services, 4-day exploration, and 5-day outreach or residential projects.
One of the Lodge National Secondary School students who achieved the Gold award, Alicia Lau Kai Xuan, said it was indeed a rewarding experience in the award journey.
Starting as a Bronze level participant in Form 2 and continuing with Silver level in Form 3, she said they managed to carry out their activities despite many challenges and limitations during the pandemic and post-pandemic periods.
“I am thankful to my teachers, school management, and parents for encouraging me to achieve this award,” she said.
The ceremony was attended by 106 Gold Award recipients and Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award leaders who guided and mentored the recipients.
Leader of the Award programme at Lodge National Secondary School, Wong Jade Chian, also expressed her appreciation to parents and the Youth and Sports Department Sarawak, who supported the program in the school.
She was among the leaders from states all over Malaysia who received their Certificate of Appreciation for their tireless efforts to mentor the youth in their Gold journey. — DayakDaily
