SIBU, Oct 10: Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing visited several flood-hit areas in Sibu today.

The areas he visited were Salim-Stabau, Pulau Li Hua, and Sungai Assan, where he also presented food baskets to the affected residents.

A spokesperson from the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) operations room said that the flood situation worsened, with some low-lying areas rendered inaccessible where the water level is between two and three feet high.

These areas include Salim-Stabau, Sungai Assan, Kampung Kerto, and Kampung Banyok.

At the Salim-Stabau area, the areas affected are Rumah Joseph, Jalan Salim, the main Salim-Stabau Road, and Lot 217 and Lot 211 of Jalan Stabau.

“These areas have been overflowed with water from Batang Rajang to a depth of two to three feet, but no residents have been evacuated.

“However, the water started to recede at 11am,” said the spokesperson.

Commenting on the Sungai Assan area, the spokesperson said it involves Rumah Gerinsam, Kampung Kedada, and Rumah Peresiris.

The water also submerged several roads, including the courtyard area of longhouses, and some roads cannot be accessed by small vehicles.

“The Kampung Kerto and Kampung Banyok areas were also affected where their main road was flooded with water about two feet high.”

In the town area, Jalan Khoo Peng Loong was flooded with water up to one and a half feet high following the overflow of water from the high tide. — DayakDaily
