KUCHING, Apr 25: Concerns over rising drug abuse, particularly among youths, have been raised following feedback from parents that the problem is worsening and has spread into schools.

In a Facebook post, Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing hoped that the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and relevant authorities will take a firmer and more aggressive stance in combating drug abuse.

“I will give my full support to efforts to eradicate this problem. We must take firm action against anyone involved in drugs for the sake of our nation’s future and the generations to come,” he said.

Meanwhile, speaking on his attendance at a pre-Gawai Dayak gathering organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac), Tiong, who also helms the ministry, said the strong turnout reflected a spirit of unity and a deep appreciation for Sarawak’s culture and heritage.

“The organisation of this programme is important in efforts to preserve and elevate the cultural heritage that forms the unique identity of Sarawak’s people.

“The Gawai celebration is not only a tradition of the Dayak community, but also a symbol of gratitude and harmony among a multi-ethnic society,” said the Dudong assemblyman.

He said what makes Malaysia unique is its diversity of celebrations and festivals which reflects a high level of unity and harmony which must be safeguarded.

“In this regard, I call on all of us to continue promoting our respective cultural and religious traditions in our state and country.

“This is important so that the younger generation can understand our heritage, thereby strengthening unity and harmony within society,” he said. — DayakDaily
