SIBU, Jan 7: Sarawak’s quest to have full control over education and health according to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) has been fulfilled as the federal government has, in principle, agreed to return such rights.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof shared the good news when taking questions from reporters during his walkabout at the Sibu Central Market today.

“Yes, that (the return of autonomy over education and health to Sarawak) is already in principle agreed (by the federal government). So, we are now working on the details,” he said.

The matters (education and health autonomy), he said, are on the agenda of the MA63 Action Council’s first meeting that is expected to be held in early February in Kuching.

Other agenda include finalising the special allocations for Sabah and Sarawak under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.

On the walkabout of the market, he expressed his happiness to meet the hawkers as he had not been able to do it for quite a long time and reminisced that he used to accompany his late father to the market.

Fadillah later had breakfast at his late father’s favourite stall. Joining him were Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee; Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang; Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting. — DayakDaily
