KUCHING, April 18: Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof has disclosed that the government will prepare a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding constituency funds for opposition MPs.

According to Fadillah, who is also the unity government chief whip, revealed that the unity government, during the Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting held yesterday (April 17) at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya, has decided in principle to consider channelling allocations to opposition parliamentarians.

“To this end, a draft MoU will be prepared and sent to the opposition as the next step in the negotiation process.

“This matter was agreed upon in a meeting that lasted over an hour, chaired by Prime Minister Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim, and attended by top leaders of the component parties of the unity government,” he said in a statement issued today.

Fadillah, who has been assigned to negotiate with the opposition regarding their requests for constituency funds, stated that the decision to meet yesterday was a result of his previous meeting with opposition leader Dato Seri Hamzah Zainudin in Parliament on March 19.

“During the meeting, the opposition made it clear that they wanted allocations, and they stated that any conditions for granting these allocations should be decided by the government,” he told reporters at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house event here on Saturday (April 13). — DayakDaily
