KUCHING, April 18: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has announced that the first phase of the Ang Cheng Ho quarry redevelopment project in Batu Kawah has been completed and is now open to the public.

According to Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, the first phase included the construction of a multi-purpose hall and an innovation hub.

“The air-conditioned multi-purpose hall can accommodate between 800 and 1,000 people, and I had the privilege of using it for my Batu Kawah Chinese New Year Open House recently.

“Phase 2 is currently in the planning stages, and will include walking trails, rock climbing, extreme sports as well as water sports around the 20-acre Ang Cheng Ho quarry lake,” he said in a video message shared on his official Facebook page’s Reels yesterday (April 17).

He revealed he recently met with private landowners around the Ang Cheng Ho quarry to discuss master town planning for the area, with proposals including a resort, shopping centre, and hotel.

“We also want to incorporate a 40-acre piece of land given to MPP (Padawan Municipal Council) by Adenan Satem (the late Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) as a park and this will be one of the biggest parks in Kuching which will transform Batu Kawah,” he added.

Dr Sim, who also serves as the Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG), stated that MPP manages the facilities in the first phase of the project.

“If anyone wants to use the facilities, please contact MPP; the facilities are for the local community to use,” he added. — DayakDaily
