Doris deserves serious consideration as deputy minister in Anwar’s Cabinet, says PRS deputy info chief

KUCHING, Dec 6: Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim should strongly consider Sri Aman MP Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie as a deputy minister in his Cabinet, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) deputy information chief Andy Lawrence.

In a statement today, he said the PRS Women’s chief is no stranger to the political field as she was appointed as a senator on March 12, 2010, and was the first Dayak woman to be appointed as deputy president of the Senate on Feb 26, 2012.

In the recently concluded 15th General Election (GE15), she broke another glass ceiling by becoming the first ever Dayak woman MP.

“During the recent appointment of Cabinet ministers, we can see less than 20 per cent were women, which is far from the global target of 30 per cent, which is to ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in politics.

“Furthermore, PRS has five MPs, but there is no minister yet to cover for the Southern Region, namely from Saratok, Betong, Sri Aman, down to Serian,” he said, reiterating that he hopes the prime minister would consider their request.

In GE15, Doris defeated incumbent Dato Masir Kujat to win the Sri Aman seat for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Doris secured 14,131 votes with a majority of 4,039 against independent Masir (5,673), Wilson Esabang (Parti Sarawak Bersatu) with 10,092 votes, and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Tay Wei Wei (2,021). — DayakDaily
