BINTULU, Oct 21: Sarawak commissioner of police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri is calling on the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from spreading fake news, particularly during the Jepak by-election campaign period.

He said any offenders would be investigated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and related authorities.

Throughout the Jepak by-election, from nomination, campaigning, polling until post-election, he said 624 officers are ready to assist in any way possible.

This morning during the nomination, Mohd Azman said 216 police officers were tasked to ensure order at Bintulu Civic Centre.

“Here I thank all the political leaders, supporters and candidates because the nomination process went by smoothly and safely.

“Moving forward, I advise the candidates to discuss with the Bintulu District Police Headquarters about the campaign permit application,” he told reporters at the nomination centre today.

Candidates are allowed to campaign starting today until 12 midnight on Nov 3, before polling day on Nov 4.

Today, three candidates were confirmed to be standing in the Jepak by-election.
