KUCHING, Feb 1: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman reveals the State government has allocated a total of RM150 million to Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak to address flash floods in Kuching.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Hilmy stated that the sum allocated to DID Sarawak is for areas under DBKU and Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) jurisdictions.

He told reporters this during a meet-the-media session at the DBKU Special Assembly at Pangkalan Sapi in Kuching today.

Hilmy added that DID Sarawak will also implement several flood mitigation programmes, especially in Taman Murni, which was affected by floods this week.

“Flood mitigation programmes will be carried out in the Sarawak General Hospital area and in areas severely affected by flood issues,” he disclosed.

He also revealed that a project to improve the drainage systems from the Metrocity Matang area to the E-Mart Matang roundabout is now being undertaken by DBKU to prevent further flood issues.
