KUCHING, Oct 26: Involving school children in political activism over the Palestinian-Israel conflict is ‘inappropriate’, says Deputy Premier Dato Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister said school children are underage and should not be involved in any form of political activism.

“That is why Sarawak is fighting for education autonomy. We do not have to follow it blindly.

“It is not consistent with Sarawak’s values where we have a harmonious society, respecting each other and living in peace,” he told reporters when met after officiating at Kampung Kenyalang Community Carnival at Kenyalang Park Community Association Hall (KPCA) here today.

Dr Sim was commenting on an alleged Ministry of Education’s (MOE) notice dated Oct 21 and Oct 23, 2023, requesting all education institutions under the ministry to implement and observe a solidarity week in support of the Palestinian cause from Oct 29 to Nov 3.

He admitted that although the tragic conflict needs to be addressed, there are still many other avenues that can be used to show support for the cause.

“But it should not involve children in schools,” he added. — DayakDaily
