LAWAS, Aug 19: Development projects must be planned with the community’s needs in mind, with functionality, practicality and safety taking priority alongside aesthetics, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He said project designs should take into account actual site conditions, user needs and the intended purpose of a development, rather than focusing solely on aesthetics.
“Architects and relevant parties must first assess actual site conditions before deciding on the design and planning of a project.
“Functionality, practicality, safety and aesthetics are the four main things that need to be given attention when planning a development project,” he said during a visit to the RM2.35 million Anjung Usahawan Noor Islam project in Kampung Noor Islam, Kuala Lawas, on Monday (Aug 17), according to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Awang Tengah, who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman, called for the project to be completed by September, ahead of its original October target.
He said the facility would provide space for the local community to develop entrepreneurial activities, particularly among small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The facility could also serve as a platform for producing and marketing local products, including food and other products based on the skills and resources available within the community.
Awang Tengah encouraged local entrepreneurs to make full use of the facility to improve product quality, adopt technology and strengthen their marketing capabilities.
He also urged them to look beyond the local market by exploring opportunities in Brunei and Singapore, given Lawas’ strategic location and established trade links with neighbouring countries.
Also present were Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip and political secretary to the Sarawak Premier Awangku Jinal Abedin Dato Pengiran Jawa. — DayakDaily
