Deputy Premier calls for new policies, regulation to tackle noise pollution

KUCHING, March 5: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian calls for cooperation from hearing experts and audiologists to devise new policies and regulations for policymakers to tackle noise pollution.

According to Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak, this is important to protect the public from hearing loss.


“Although there is already a noise pollution policy that is adhered to by the entertainment industry, but the policy standard may not be acceptable nowadays.

“So with all these things going on, I encourage the professionals to come forward to work with us so that we, the policy makers, are able to change the policy,” he told reporters when met after launching Sarawak HEAR Health Carnival held at Farley Kuching here today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim said the Sarawak government, through Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development has taken a holistic approach to assist children and teenagers in Sarawak who suffer from hearing loss.

He also said eight cochlear implants and 2 auditory brainstem implants for eight individuals including children have also been approved to help them regain their hearing.

He added a total of RM620,000 has been allocated as of March 2023. – DayakDaily
