MIRI, Dec 10: Democratic Action Party (DAP) veteran Lim Kit Siang slammed Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for attending the 100-day Malaysian Family Aspiration programme which was held yesterday at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

“Ismail Sabri should have insisted that the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) be observed or walked away from the 100-day report card event yesterday to show that he was serious about the 23-month Covid-19 pandemic which have accumulated nearly 2.7 million Covid-19 cases and caused over 30,000 Covid-19 deaths.

“In fact, it should be asked how many of the over 30,000 Covid-19 deaths are avoidable deaths, simply caused by sheer incompetence of the health service,” he said in Miri during a press conference here today.

Lim, 80, was in Miri for a one-day visit here to meet and greet the party’s (DAP) 12th Sarawak Election candidates for three constituencies here, namely Alan Ling (Pujut), Peter Hee (Piasau) and Marcus Lejau (Senadin).

On Saturday (Dec 11) ,Lim is scheduled to be in Sibu for a similar function.

Lim added, by allowing an event which threw all the Covid-19 SOPs to the wind, Ismail Sabri had failed not only as the ninth Prime Minister, but failed the nation and the Malaysian people.

In fact, the DAP strongman asserted, this had rendered the 100-day report card of the PM’s Cabinet a total failure and a sham.

“How can Malaysia win in the war against Covid-19 pandemic when we have a Prime Minister who does not understand the importance of the Covid-19 SOPs,” Lim pointed out.

Instead, he added, what the people are seeing are bad examples of how the Ismail Sabri government is using the Covid-19 pandemic to commit abuses of power. He cited the Sarawak general election as an example where the need to prevent Covid-19 infections is used to prevent the holding of fair, free and clean elections.

“I call on Ismail Sabri to apologise to all Malaysians for the shocking event yesterday,” he said. — DayakDaily
