KUCHING, Jan 3: The deteriorating drains in the backlane of Lorong D9, Taman BDC, with cracks and early signs of soil erosion, require urgent attention as their condition poses an imminent risk to nearby houses.

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak member Michael Kong has called on the Sarawak government, particularly Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Kuching South City Council (MBKS), to prioritise addressing drainage issues in Kuching.

Kong, also the special assistant to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said that the excuse of awaiting funding is no longer acceptable.

“The local elected representative from GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) has access to substantial funding (RM5 million in RTP fund and RM2 million in MRP fund) and considering the significant reserves held by the Sarawak government, it is puzzling why these resources are not allocated for essential infrastructure improvements that would benefit Sarawakians,” he said in a statement today.

Kong claimed that the affected residents in Taman BDC have filed multiple complaints directly to MBKS since last year, and the issue was acknowledged by council officers during an on-site visit. — DayakDaily
