KUCHING, May 5: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum reveals that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be the guest-of-honour at the PRS Pre-Gawai 2024 Dinner at Kingwood Hotel Sibu on May 18.

Salang elaborated that PRS had nominated its central region branch to be the host and intimated to the Sarawak Premier that Ahmad Zahid be the guest-of+honour for the event.

He added the reason is that Ahmad Zahid is also the federal minister in charge of rural development.

“As you all know, all PRS seats and constituencies are in rural areas, and it is incumbent upon us as a party to try and remind his ministry that these projects are urgently needed and we would like them to be implemented as soon as possible.

“So, I think it is the main reason as a party why we decided to hold our pre-Gawai (Dayak) dinner in the central area so that we can bring in all members from rural areas, especially from the central region.

“PRS has nominated Federal Minister of Unity Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang as the organising chairman for the pre-Gawai dinner in Sibu.”

Salang told reporters this after the party’s Supreme Council Meeting at the party headquarters here, today.

He also said that PRS has resolved to have their ‘Ngiling Bidai’ (Gawai closing) 2024 event, which is likely to be in Ulu Rejang.

“PRS have delegated to the two State Assemblymen and the Member of Parliament of the constituency to decide on the suitable location.”

Salang revealed that the proposed guest-of-honour for the event is Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Based on our discussion, the tentative suitable date will be June 29, and the likely venue will be in Tubau area, Bintulu,” he said. — DayakDaily
