MIRI, March 30: A Covid-19 screening facility is currently being set up at Sungai Tujoh Immigration checkpoint here to run a quick test for cross-border travellers between Miri and Brunei as part of the control measures in preparation for border reopening on April 1.

Minister-in-charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin pointed out that the Committee is also looking into making it compulsory for foreign travellers to undergo professional antigen rapid tests (RTK-Ag) at a cost before entering Sarawak via the Miri-Brunei border.

“We have identified several healthcare providers in Miri to conduct the RTK-Ag tests with the cost to be borne by the foreign travellers.

“However, the charge will be announced after Miri DDMC finalises the cost,” he told reporters during a visit to inspect the preparations for border reopening at Sungai Tujoh Immigration checkpoint here on Wednesday.

With arrangements currently underway, Lee, who is also Transport Minister, gave assurance to do their best to ensure traffic flows run smoothly on April 1.

At the moment, Brunei’s border is not fully open yet, as only essential services are allowed to travel across the border with permits issued by the Brunei government.— DayakDaily
