Covid-19 spike in Telang Usan due to increase of patients from Lunyim, Kevok Clusters

KUCHING, June 27: Telang Usan has reported a spike of 70 Covid-19 cases today pushing itself up the ladder to be the district with the second highest daily toll right after Sibu with 89 cases.

According to the reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), two active clusters in Telang Usan, namely the Lunyim and Kevok Clusters, took up 40 of the 70 new cases.

With a total of 513 cases in Sarawak today, other districts with new infections were Bintulu (68), Kuching (63), Bau (43), Sri Aman (41), Miri (24), Sarikei (22), Song (11), Asajaya (11), Samarahan (9), Tatau (8), Selangau (8), Pakan (8), Meradong (7), Serian (5), Subis (4), Kapit (4), Julau (3), Bukit Mabong (2), Mukah (2), Lawas (2), Pusa (2), Betong (2), Tebedu (1), Kanowit (1), Kabong (1), Sebauh (1) and Simunjan (1).

With that, the committee said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak since the outbreak in March, 2020 now stands at 63,824.

“Out of the 513 patients today, 322 were detected following close contact screenings where 16 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 127 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where one showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 33 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 30 cases were from other screenings in health facilities and one Import-B case who returned from other states in Malaysia,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

Meanwhile, SDMC also reported three new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus the death toll increased to 404.

The three victims were, aged between 54 to 73, with one each from Beluru, Subis and Tatau. All three of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

On the latest update of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 29 red, three orange, seven yellow zones and one green zone. Daro is the only green zone in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
