Minos rebuts criticism that govt failing in anti-Covid-19 efforts

KUCHING, June 27: If one considers the Malaysian government has failed in eliminating Covid-19, then the whole world has failed too, according to political pundit Dato Peter Minos.

He noted that that many developed and developing nations scrambled to ward off the novel coronavirus with many nations taking measures, both drastic and sudden, but all failed except for a very few like New Zealand.

He observed that even the United States of America (USA) saw nearly a million dead and millions suffering from the deadly illness.

“The Malaysian government, like other nations, tried this and that measure such as Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional MCO, Recovery MCO, Enhanced MCO and back to MCO again. Nobody in the whole world knew what was the best and most effective measure against Covid-19.

“All nations experimented. It was all like trial and error. Until the one and only pretty sure answer is the vaccines.

“The Malaysian government has found the anti-Covid answer and is now going all out to vaccinate Malaysians nationwide with whatever vaccines that are bought from vaccine-manufacturing nations and are available,” he said in a statement today.

He opined the Malaysian government has not failed the exercise, and called out the critics and cynics as failing themselves by their ‘careless and callous’ remarks.

“The truth and the fact is that the government has tried and has done everything humanely possible in fighting the virus. Those who too easily had said that the government had failed, do not know or pretend not to know the facts and the truth.

“Those who do nothing or very little in contributing towards the fight against Covid-19 should just keep quiet,” he added.

He also called upon all Malaysians to unite behind and cooperate with the government’s current vaccination exercise so that the country can reach its 80 per cent vaccination target.

“When we Malaysians have achieved the 80 per cent target, only then can we do the cheers and celebrate. Hopefully August/September is the happy date,” he said. — DayakDaily
