COVID-19: Sarawak records 18 new PUI cases today

KUCHING, Mar 6: Sarawak has recorded a total of 18 new Patient-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases today.

While 16 of them are at the Sarawak General Hospital, Sibu and Bintulu Hospitals recorded one each.

From Jan 10 up to 10.30am today, Sarawak recorded a total of 195 PUI cases, 167 of which tested negative for the disease.


Currently, 28 cases are pending results from laboratory testing. They included 22 cases at the Sarawak General Hospital, three in Miri Hospital, two in Bintulu Hospital and one in Sibu Hospital.

The Health Department had until 11am yesterday screened 14,797 arrivals to the state at all its airports, sea and land entry points to bring it to a total of 368,122 screened since 1 February, 2020.

Meanwhile the State Health Department advises those who plan to travel to affected countries like China (including Hong Kong, Macau), Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran to postpone their trips.

Those who have travelled to any of these affected countries within last 14 days and have developed fever, coughing and breathing difficulty must seek immediate medical attention. They must inform the doctor attending to them if their have travel history.

Any doctors coming across suspected Covid-19 case must notify the state Health Department at 082 443247 or reach its Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre at cprc-sarawak@moh.gov.my.

For others, they can contact the State Disaster Management Committee at its hotline 083 443991.

Again, the department is advising the public to take strict care of their personal hygiene.

“Please cough or sneeze into tissue papers which must be properly disposed off. Observe this etiquette all the time.

“Wash your hands with soap or hand sanitiser after coughing or sneezing. Use face mask when one needs to talk to others,” said State Disaster Management Committee in a press statement today. —DayakDaily
