Covid-19 in Sarawak: Kuching registers over 200 cases for second time in a week

KUCHING, May 31: On the eve of Hari Gawai Dayak, Covid-19 cases in Kuching crossed the 200-case mark for the second time in less than a week with 219 cases reported.

The district had earlier reported 229 cases on May 27.


At the same time, Sibu also reported a triple-digit increase of new Covid-19 cases with 102.

Other districts which reported new cases include Miri with 84, Bintulu (54), Samarahan (33), Tanjung Manis (27), Kapit (17), Lubok Antu (17), Betong (15), Mukah (13), Sri Aman (10), Bau (9), Asajaya (9), Subis (7), Lundu (7), Meradong (7), Serian (5), Julau (3), Tatau (3), Bukit Mabong (2), Kanowit (2), Sarikei (2), Dalat (2), Pakan (2), Beluru (1), Saratok (1) and Selangau (1).

Summed up, there were 654 new cases reported today pushing the cumulative number of coronavirus cases in Sarawak to 47,329.

There was also one imported case which involved an individual returning from Ivory Coast.

Meanwhile, there were 10 fatalities reported, a record high for the State.

The new casualties have pushed the State’s death toll due to Covid-19 to 294.

There were 473 Covid-19 patients reported to have recovered, bringing the number of patients who have been discharged to 38,963, or 82.32 per cent of the total number of coronavirus cases.

There are 7,965 Covid-19 patients still being treated in various health facilities and quarantine and low-risk treatment centres throughout the State.

There were 654 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases reported today, with none awaiting Covid-19 swab test results. — DayakDaily
