KUCHING, Sept 15: Malaysia Day should serve as an opportunity for all Malaysians to reflect on the history of the country’s formation and understand their rights and responsibilities within the Federation of Malaysia, rather than being seen as just a public holiday.
According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, September 16 is an important date for Malaysians to reflect on the meaning of the Federation of Malaysia’s formation and the country’s future direction.
In this regard, he hoped Malaysians would gain a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s formation, including the rights and position of Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the federal government’s responsibilities under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution.
“Let us celebrate Malaysia Day together with purpose, mission and vision,” he said in a message in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Meanwhile, Dr Sim said Sarawak was increasingly attracting attention, with high hopes being placed on the state to help shape Malaysia’s future.
“Lately, many people have been looking towards Sarawak and placing their hopes on Sarawak as another path forward for Malaysia,” he said.
He also urged all Malaysians to use Malaysia Day as a momentum to strengthen the spirit of togetherness and work together to build the country’s future. — DayakDaily
