Sarawak sets new record of 10 single-day Covid-10 death toll

KUCHING, May 31: Sarawak has reported a record-high single-day toll of 10 Covid-19 deaths today, pushing the total tally up to 294.

According to the reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Miri registered three of these deaths, Sibu two, Sri Aman two, Kapit, Kuching and Limbang one each.


All with medical histories of comorbidities except fatality case number 294, 10 of these victims who consisted of four females and six males were aged between 50 to 78 years old.

Half of them namely the 286th and the 288th to 292th cases experienced breathing difficulties before they were admitted to hospitals where their results turned out to be positive for Covid-19.

In the following days, their conditions deteriorated before they were pronounced dead on May 28 for fatality number 286 and on May 30 for fatality number 288 to 292.

Meanwhile, there were four cases who were detected positive for Coronavirus as they were receiving treatment for other illnesses.

The 285th death case was in the hospital following a seizure, the 292th was receiving treatment for his heart attack, the 293th was getting his gangrenous toe checked, and the 294th was getting her back and leg pain treated.

All four of them had Covid-19 swab tests while they were in the hospitals and their results came back positive before they were confirmed to have passed away between May 27 and 31.

Of the 10 fatalities today, there was only one which was fatality case number 287 who was found positive for the virus while she was at the Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre for Covid-19 (PKRC).

She was verified dead on May 30 after her condition worsened while she experienced symptoms of coughs, sore throat, fatigue and loss of appetite.

Prior to this day, Sarawak had on May 27 recorded nine Covid-19 deaths in a day and eight deaths on May 21. — DayakDaily
