KUCHING, June 17: Construction on the new Spaoh health clinic is expected to start at the latest by year-end, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to TVS, he said that the RM36 million project is the result of a collaboration between the Betong District Development Agency (BDDA) and the Ministry of Health, in which RM16.5 million was contributed by the ministry and the remainder was to be borne by the agency.
“The project site has been identified and acquired, while compensation has been paid to the landowner,” he said.
He said this at the Bukit Saban Service Centre on Monday (June 16), where he presented education incentives amounting to over RM32,500 to 13 diploma students, as well as three students who performed well in their SPM 2024 examinations.
Uggah hoped that construction on the clinic could commence as soon as possible, adding that a meeting would be held with the Health Ministry and the Sarawak Health Department director next week to expedite the project’s implementation.
Uggah, who is also the assemblyman for Bukit Saban, stated that the facility is much-needed, as the existing clinic is in a state of disrepair.
“Spaoh’s population is increasing every year. Therefore, the implementation of this project is needed to meet the needs of residents,” he said.
Meanwhile, he announced that three haemodialysis centres have been proposed for establishment in Spaoh, Beladin, and Kabong, and the matter will be discussed in next week’s meeting as well.
“BDDA has approved RM5 million for each haemodialysis centre. I want this matter to be confirmed and implemented by the end of the year,” he said. — DayakDaily
