KUCHING, Oct 11: Before the government starts to sell its electricity to Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia, it should guarantee that the electricity supply across Sarawak is stable and not plagued by constant power trips or blackouts.

This is the view of a reader, Romeo James, who expressed his frustration over the consistent power trips and blackouts in his residential area in Matang.

On Oct 1, he said, there was a blackout of one and a half hours, and today, there was another one between 5am to 6.30am.

Between 5am and 6.30am, he said, was the time when parents would get their children ready to go to school.

“Imagine the hassle where we had to struggle in the darkness to get our children ready to school. It was so inconvenient.

“My child had to use a candle so that she could get ready for school. While she was getting ready, the candle burnt to the end of its wick, and started to burn the table where she had laid the candle. It was so dangerous.

“Furthermore, consistent power trips will cause electrical appliances, food or drinks in the refrigerators to spoil.

“To me, it is good that the government will be selling our electricity power to Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia. However, perhaps before that happens, make sure that Sarawakians are properly looked after first. We are, after all, the customers,” said Romeo.

Meanwhile, Romeo expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Utilities for a good job performed in resuming the supply of clean water in Matang.

He said two to three days following his prior public complaint through DayakDaily, he said, actions were taken where water pipes in his area was flushed and since, treated water in his area has been very clean. — DayakDaily
