KUCHING, March 12: The government has granted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Sarawak and Sabah permission to issue consolidated e-Invoices, allowing them to merge all monthly sales transactions into a single invoice before submission to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
According to a TVS news report, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the move aims to ease the burden on small businesses in these states, which often face challenges such as limited internet coverage and power supply disruptions.
“MSMEs are permitted to issue consolidated e-Invoices, meaning they can combine all their monthly sales transactions into one e-Invoice, which must be submitted to LHDN within the first seven days of the following month through the MyInvois portal or application,” she said during the Oral Question Session in the Dewan Negara today.
To further support businesses facing connectivity issues, LHDN has set up e-Invoice service counters at all its offices nationwide, equipped with computers and internet access.
This initiative is aimed at helping MSMEs generate and submit e-Invoices without disruption.
Senator Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian had earlier raised concerns over the ministry’s preparedness in implementing e-Invoicing in Sarawak and Sabah, given the states’ infrastructure limitations.
In response, Lim also highlighted the role of Pusat Komuniti Desa (PKD) as digital training hubs nationwide, including in Sarawak and Sabah, to improve digital literacy among rural communities.
“The facilities available at PKD, such as computer training spaces and internet services, can be fully utilised by MSMEs to enhance their digital skills and facilitate e-Invoicing at any time,” she added.
Additionally, the government has exempted small traders with an annual sales turnover below RM150,000 from the e-Invoicing requirement, benefiting over 700,000 businesses, including street vendors and stall operators.
Lim, however, reminded businesses to prepare for full e-Invoice implementation, as the system would help streamline sales record management.
The nationwide rollout of mandatory e-Invoicing will begin on July 1, 2025, while MSMEs with annual sales between RM150,000 and RM500,000 will have their implementation deadline extended to January 1, 2026, allowing ample preparation time. — DayakDaily
