KUCHING, May 10: Malaysia’s phased e-Invoice implementation is set to transform tax compliance, with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) pushing for taxpayers to actively request e-Invoices for eligible personal expenses.

In a press release, IRB said the move is part of a pilot initiative to pre-fill individual tax relief information using real transaction data under the Income Tax Return Form for the Year of Assessment 2026.

Under the system, expenses such as smartphones, personal computers, insurance, lifestyle purchases, childcare fees and other approved relief categories may be automatically captured and pre-filled based on e-Invoice records.

To ensure proper issuance, buyers are required to provide their identification number or Tax Identification Number (TIN) to sellers when requesting an e-Invoice.

IRB said the system will not only streamline record-keeping and improve compliance, but also allow taxpayers to easily verify their transactions and eligible relief through the MyInvois Portal.

Taxpayers needing assistance can contact IRB via its e-Invoice help channels, including its 24-hour hotline at 03-8682 8000, MyInvois Live Chat, email at myinvois@hasil.gov.my, or through https://feedback.myinvois.hasil.gov.my, as well as visiting any IRB office nationwide. — DayakDaily
