SIBU, Feb 14: The completion date for the Sibujaya-Kong Yit Khim Road has been postponed till the end of 2024.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed this when met by the media during his visit to Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang’s house today in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Utility and Communication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi and President of Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dato Sri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg.

The 6.75km-long road, costing RM95.6 million, will reduce travelling time by 20 minutes between Sibujaya and Sibu town centre.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, during a visit to the project site in Sept 2023, had expected the road to be completed by Jan 2024.

The dual carriageway road is to be Public Works Department (JKR) R5 standard and will be equipped with streetlights.

He said work on the project is experiencing some minor problems at Section 6 of Sibujaya involving some settlements in the area. — DayakDaily
