KUCHING, Feb 3: Chinese New Year came early for the Sarawak Society for Parents of Children with Special Needs (Pibakat) in the form of a generous ‘ang pao’ amounting to RM10,000 by Plaza Merdeka.
Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah expressed her appreciation to the corporate sector and members of the public for their generosity in donating to non-governmental organisations (NGOs), especially those who take care of people with special needs.
“We hope more individuals and corporate sectors will follow to help NGOs in terms of finance to ease their burdens and help those in need,” she said before launching the Lunar New Year celebration at Plaza Merdeka today.
In ushering in the coming Chinese New Year, Fatimah urged Sarawakians to live peacefully in unity and diversity.
“As we celebrate all the festive occasions in Sarawak, we must come together and learn each other’s traditions. This is good as it makes Sarawak happy and lets us be better by living together in social inclusivity and strengthening our unity,” she said.
Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman, Plaza Merdeka Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Steve Ng and executive director Datin Anriza Wong Cordero, Divine Will Society trustee and Lion Club Kuching One Earth honorary advisor Dato Sim Kiang Chiok, and Pibakat Association honorary secretary Ng Kui Choo were among those present. — DayakDaily
