KUCHING, Feb 3: The Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak (Sa Hua Zong) will host the 39th National Chinese Cultural Festival this year.

According to Sa Hua Zong-cum-Federation of Chinese Associations for Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Divisions president Dato Richard Wee Liang Chiat, starting in June, a series of events will be held in all divisions of Sarawak and Kuching will also be the main venue for the closing ceremony of the festival.

“The highlight of the event would be the torch run relay from Limbang to Miri and then to Bintulu, Sibu, Mukah, Sarikei, Kapit and up to Kuching, which is scheduled to take place sometime in September.

“This is a national event, and usually, for the closing ceremony, the guest-of-honour will be the Prime Minister,” he told reporters after the Media Appreciation Ceremony organised by Sa Hua Zong held at its office in Pending today.

Wee further said the Federation intended to line up exciting programmes leading to the cultural performance and closing ceremony at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The National Chinese Cultural Festival, initiated by the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong), is hosted every year by the Chinese assembly halls of various states.

Last year, the annual event was hosted by the Federation of Chinese Associations of Sabah (FCAS) sometime in October.
