KUCHING, Dec 14: Under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is confident that Lingga will continue to develop.

During the launching ceremony of Lingga as a full district held at Dataran Terubok Lingga today which was livestreamed by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), he said that Lingga has seen vast development under GPS.

“Under the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA), several projects have been approved such as the riverbank protection works for Sungai Bakong (RM90 million), irrigation and drainage infrastructure around Bakong (RM33.2 million), construction of Jalan Stirau-Bakong bypass (RM15.62 million), upgrading Jalan Menuang to Langgir (RM48.8 million), upgrading Menangkin to Engkeranji (RM71.5 million), construction of Jalan Lingga-Banting (RM75 million), and the Gunung Lesong Ecotourism Complex (RM33.715 million).

“All these projects have cost the government RM367.84 million and is one of our efforts to develop Lingga into a full district. Only GPS can do this while others only talk,” he said.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion who was also present said that the State government always strives towards improving its service delivery to the people.

“Government policies cannot be implemented if the administrative system of service delivery and its operations are inefficient,” said Jaul.

Jaul added that the State government has implemented various initiatives to provide facilities to the people, especially those in rural and isolated areas so that the people can easily deal with government agencies.

“The chief minister’s vision is for rural areas like Lingga to enjoy rapid development so that the people can enjoy the fruits of Sarawak’s prosperity, and the public administration will provide strong support in achieving this vision and aspiration.

“In my opinion, the upgrade of Lingga into a full district is a very valuable gift from the State government to the people of Lingga. Well done and congratulations to all Lingga residents,” he said.

Also present during the event were Deputy State Secretary (Socio-Economic Transformation) Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sri Aman Resident Datu Indit Bangai, and Sri Aman District Officer Asree Wee. — DayakDaily
