Wee appeals to Yong to resolve Padungan candidacy issue as one family

KUCHING, Dec 14: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N9 Padungan Dato Wee Hong Seng has appealed to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching branch chairwoman Datuk Lily Yong to resolve the disagreement over the SUPP candidacy for Padungan under the spirit of one family within GPS and SUPP.

Wee said he understood Yong’s disappointment and frustration that none of SUPP Kuching’s shortlisted candidates were picked to represent SUPP in the Padungan seat.

Nonetheless, Wee pointed out that he had helped Yong in past State Elections for the sake of SUPP by supporting SUPP Kuching branch’s nominated candidates for the Padungan seat.

In the coming 12th Sarawak Election on Dec 18, Wee said GPS faces an archrival which is Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen in the battle for Padungan.

“I humbly ask for your (Yong’s) help and assistance to help SUPP and GPS to win back the Padungan seat which had been held by DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) for many years.

“I strongly believe my proposed manifesto, if materialised, will truly bring Padungan to another height and (as well as) that of its constituents’ welfare.

“SUPP Kuching branch will also benefit from this,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

Adding on, Wee stressed that he prioritises camaraderie above anything else in resolving internal conflicts.

He believed that he and Yong can work together towards a united consensus after the 12th Sarawak Election.

Yesterday, during SUPP Kuching’s pre-Christmas dinner, Yong said she was saddened by the last-minute change in candidate for the Padungan seat following the announcement that Wee will represent the party for the seat.

With the Padungan seat traditionally allocated to SUPP Kuching branch, Yong said the branch had initially nominated its treasurer Jong Yean Pin.

Yong added that Jong and branch deputy chairman Bong Lian Huan have been identified as the potential candidates for the Padungan seat in the 12th Sarawak Election. — DayakDaily
