KUCHING, May 9: The Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will honour 14 humanitarian partners at the inaugural Humanitarian Partner Appreciation Day on May 13, 2023 here.

According to a press release, the purpose of the event is to gather organisations that the Church has collaborated with in 2022 to carry out various humanitarian projects in Sarawak and to commemorate their efforts to serve those in need.

Partners include well-known organisations such as the Rotary Club and Red Crescent Society of Malaysia, Cheshire Homes, and Cleft Lip and Palate Association Malaysia (CLAPAM), as well as newer organisations such as Pertubuhan Orang Cacat Sarawak (POCS), Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), and other cancer support groups.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang will be present as the guest speaker to celebrate this event and congratulate those present on their humanitarian efforts.

The event will be held at the Church’s meetinghouse on Jalan Seladah. Partner humanitarian organisations will receive appreciation plaques to recognise their humanitarian service in Sarawak and thank them on behalf of the Church for their help and cooperation in the past year.

The Church and its partners have collaborated on a variety of initiatives to support cancer patients, including children, as well as disabled people, indigenous peoples, and other beneficiaries. In 2022, 28 jointly organised service projects have benefited more than one million members of the community in Sarawak, Malaysia.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is known internationally for its strong commitment to humanitarian work. While its efforts in Malaysia span decades, East Malaysia received a significant increase of support in recent times.

“This was the result of a strategic move to pursue partnerships and coordinate resources as a more efficient and effective way of doing good together. These results would not be possible without the cooperation of our local humanitarian partners,” as per the press release.

A high tea reception concluding the ceremony will give attendees an opportunity to mingle and explore more opportunities to do even more for the community in future.

This occasion is the first time the Church has carried out a formal appreciation of its local humanitarian partnerships and it hopes to hold similar events for such partners in other parts of Malaysia from next year onwards. — DayakDaily
