KUCHING, Nov 11: The war of words continues between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P196 Stampin Lo Khere Chiang and Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate Chong Chieng Jen after the latter accused the former of being “clueless” about playing the role of a Member of Parliament (MP).

Chong, who is incumbent Stampin MP, said this was his observation of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) Lo from his short engagement with the latter at the scene of the 3rd Mile Bazaar shophouse fire yesterday (Nov 10).

“In my short encounter with Lo Khere Chiang, it was obvious that he has no clue of the role of an MP, a Member of Parliament.

“As such, I would like to invite him to a debate or even attend a ‘kursus’ (crash course) on what is the role of an MP,” said Chong at a press conference today.

Chong continued to criticise Lo, saying that he is most willing to sit down and explain to Lo the responsibilities of an MP.

“And if he insists on his opinion, we can have a debate on the role of an MP, and generally how we can move this country forward,” Chong added.

The two Stampin candidates were both livestreaming on social media at the fire scene yesterday.

Some time into the live session, they started blaming each other for the rescue delay because firefighters could not locate the fire hydrant.

Chong accused Lo, the chairman of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), of not doing proper maintenance of the fire hydrant prior to the fire, despite receiving complaints from local residents.

Lo, on the other hand, chastised Chong for not raising the issue during his three terms as MP for Bandar Kuching and one term for Stampin.

Earlier today, Lo, in a press conference at his Batu Kitang service centre, opened fire on Chong and urged him not to mislead the people while the fire hydrant issue falls in the jurisdiction of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) which is under the Federal government. — DayakDaily
