SIBU, Nov 11: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P211 Lanang, Wong Ching Yong, has promised to implement a community and cultural centre costing RM15.6 million for Durin if he is elected as an MP in the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to Wong, the single-storey centre would consist of a pasar tamu, food stalls, restroom facilities, and a car park.

Speaking at a press conference at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong office, Sibu Rural District Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said the centre would help stimulate the local economy in Durin, thereby benefiting the people who are mostly Dayak.

“This project is very relevant as it will also be a centre for the youth to hold various activities,” he said.

According to Sempurai, the proposed project was mooted by Wong two years ago after he was sworn in as deputy chairman of the council.

“Nobody has brought this project up in Parliament. So, Wong came in at the right time. We should give him a chance of five years. I know his work ethic. He is a leader that we should have,” he said. — DayakDaily
