KUCHING, Feb 20: A man’s ‘prank’ backfired when his act of purportedly wanting to arrest a police officer resulted in him being arrested for real.

The incident was reported to have happened at Tapah Police Station here when the suspect, who is 36 at the time of the incident, went to the police station to deliver a cake.

The suspect is said to have initially introduced himself as a policeman stationed at Bukit Aman and the purpose of his visit was to arrest a policeman at the station.

Padawan district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad who confirmed the arrest said the suspect then went to his car and re-entered the station with a cake and explained it was just a ‘prank’.

The cake was ordered to be sent to a police officer who was supposed to be arrested earlier.

However, the so-called prankster was reprimanded by other policemen and when questioned again, the suspect still claimed to be an active policeman, but stationed in Kuching.

Police officers on duty then proceeded to check the suspect’s personal documents and found that he was not a police officer as claimed.

Subsequently, the suspect was arrested for further investigation under Section 170 of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of up to two years, or a fine, or both upon conviction. — DayakDaily
