KUCHING, Jan 16: Police have re-arrested a 23-year-old female suspect in connection with the abduction of a businessman case and have also succeeded in obtaining a five-day remand — until Jan 21 — against her to facilitate investigation.

Yesterday, when the suspect was being investigated under Section 364 of the Penal Code, Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar dismissed the remand application.

However, the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the discovery of a decomposing body, believed to be that of the victim, yesterday.

In addition, the case has a new investigating officer and new investigation papers.

The latest development prompted police to re-apply for remand of the female suspect to seek assistance to trace another five suspects who are still at large.

Besides, it is understood that the victim’s bank card is with the female suspect.

Mohd Syukir, who granted the remand order today, commented that Section 302 of the Penal Code relates to a serious crime. Hence, the release of the suspect will hinder police investigation.

Investigating officer Inspector Zulsafri applied for the remand, while counsel Fung Lee Fook represented the suspect. — DayakDaily
