LIMBANG, Dec 27: Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail thanked voters in N79 Bukit Kota for electing him as their representative for the fourth term under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

He won the seat in the recently concluded 12th Sarawak Election with 6,454 votes against Rosli Amat of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with 1,468 votes, Lim Lian Hun of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) with 206 votes, and Independent candidate Herun Bungsu with 62 votes.

Dr Abdul Rahman has been helming the seat since the State constituency was created in the 2005 redistribution.

He further said what made GPS’ victory sweeter was its success in winning 76 out of 82 seats in the State polls.

“GPS’ success in winning 76 out of 82 seats shows that the combination of the four component parties won 92 per cent of seats, which is the largest ever recorded in Sarawak’s elections.

“This victory is a manifestation of the support of all people from various races to the leadership of the Chief Minister who is also the GPS chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said when speaking at a Leaders with the People programme held at Kampung Bunga Raya hall last Saturday.

He also thanked the Chinese voters, which he described as an important factor in GPS’ victory in the State polls.

“The support of the Chinese community is not influenced by sentiments or local issues here alone but also issues at the national level.

“This election is a battle between GPS and PSB while Pakatan Harapan (PH) was plagued by their failure as the federal government and had less support this time,” he added.

Following this, Dr Abdul Rahman congratulated Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) for its success in restoring the Chinese community’s confidence in the struggle and aspirations of GPS in developing Sarawak in the future. ― DayakDaily
