MIRI, Aug 16:  Bombarsier C415 is in its second-day mission today with a total 198,000 litres of water been deployed in Sector Two and Three areas.

Today’s mission lasted for five hours and 18 minutes, with 33 trips made by the C415 crews.

For Sector One which is near Hamidah Complex, the Bomba teams had entered into the area this morning to make sure that all fires were put out.

The persistent efforts seemed fruitful with air pollutant index (API) readings for the three respective sensors in ILP Miri, SK Kuala Baram 2 and Miri showing a tremendous reduction of API to below 100.

Miri Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong disclosed during a press conference held late today that as the mission of Baombarsier C415 has been successful.

On tomorrow’s operation, the Bombardier C415 will focus on another area nearby the Eastwood Industrial Estate.

If everything goes smoothly and the API readings keep on reducing, we will stand down the operation (involving the Bombardier C415) by afternoon,” said Law.

According to Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), from August 1 until today (Aug 16), a total 1,238 hectare of land in Kuala Baram were razed by peat soil fires. — DayakDaily
