MIRI, Feb 27: A total of 11 women from Long Atip Telang Usan Resident Association received training on preventing accidents from occurring at home and handling fires during a one-day ‘Celik Suri’ programme at the Lopeng fire station yesterday.

The programme was launched by Zone 6 Miri Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

Participants were taught how to deal with various scenarios, such as leakages from cooking gas cylinders which can lead to explosions, fire outbreaks, gas stove fires, and many more. They also learned how to use fire extinguishers.

Law, in his opening remarks, emphasised the importance of housewives learning these skills so that they can protect themselves and their families.

He said the programme highlighted the need to raise awareness about fire safety at home and how to deal with it.

“Women must have awareness and knowledge on how to deal with these situations,” he said. — DayakDaily
