KUCHING, June 26: Flight operations at Labuan Airport have been disrupted following the temporary closure of its runway after bombs were discovered about 150 metres from the runway.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), as posted on the Malaysia Airports Facebook page, was issued by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) at 5pm today, announcing the immediate closure of the runway until further notice.
The RMAF, together with airport authorities, is currently conducting a joint inspection of the runway.
Malaysia Airports emphasised that operations will resume only after the inspection is completed and the necessary safety clearance is granted.
According to Bernama news, the closure has led to the cancellation of flights from Labuan to Miri and Kota Kinabalu, while several arriving and departing services have been diverted, delayed, or rescheduled.
Malaysia Airports advised passengers travelling to and from Labuan to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates before heading to the airport.
Bernama’s checks at Labuan Airport found that flights scheduled at 4.05pm, 5.15pm, 6.05pm, 6.15pm, and 7.25pm to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, and Miri were among those affected. — DayakDaily
