SIBU, April 8: Police here scored a major success with the arrest of seven members of the ruthless Jes Gang behind eight incidences of birds’ nest theft.

The seven arrested included the leader of the gang.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said today that the police managed to cripple the gang after a special squad was formed to investigate their activity.

“The gang is aggressive, armed and dangerous. The special squad spent two weeks monitoring their every movement which led to their arrests,” he revealed

He added that the gang was very active in town and rural areas prior to their arrests.

“The modus operandi of the gang was to go after swiftlet houses guarded by Indonesians. Once they had identified their target, they would spring into action by assaulting and tying up the guards,” he said.

Following that, they would break into the swiflet house to steal the birds’ nests and sell them.

Stanley said the police are now looking for three suspects who are still at large.

They are Lor Lit Ma (IC no. 840609-13-5063), Tadung Sawin (IC no. 891125-13-6705) and Henry Grempong (IC no. 810315-13-5159).
