Bintulu surpasses Sibu and other districts with most Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, March 1: Bintulu has overtaken Sibu and other districts in Sarawak with the most number of Covid-19 cases reported.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Bintulu reported 57 new cases of Covid-19 today.


He observed that most Covid-19 cases reported in Bintulu were derived from screening within a high risk area of coronavirus infection.

“Some 33 cases are identified within a locality of Covid-19 infection and 23 cases from individuals screened through active case detection linked to Covid-19 positive case.

“There is also one case which involves a symptomatic individual identified through screening at the Bintulu health clinic,” he said during a press conference on the update of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister said Sarawak reported 220 new cases of Covid-19 today.

He added the cases were from Bintulu (57), Sibu (54), Miri (37), Kapit (20), Kuching (12), Julau (10), Dalat (8), Sarikei (5), Meradong (5), Betong (4), Song (2), Subis (1), Bau (1), Mukah (1), Samarahan (1), Bukit Mabong (1) and Selangau (1).

With the extra 220 cases, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 9,765 cases.

There were 199 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the hospitals.

Nevertheless, a total of 2,385 Covid-19 patients were still being treated at eight hospitals and low risk quarantine centres throughout Sarawak.

There were 220 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported while none awaiting results for the Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
