KUCHING, March 21: The Batang Rajang Bridge and its connecting Pasi-Sibu/Tanjung Manis road are expected to be open to the public next week, in time for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
According to a news report by TVS, Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) director Dr Cassidy Morris said the bridge and road are expected to be opened after the pre-launch ceremony on March 28.
“However, there are still minor works that need to be done. As such, road users are advised to drive carefully when using the bridge and follow all traffic instructions,” he told TVS.
The 1.4-kilometre (km) bridge is expected to reduce dependence on the existing Sibu-Tanjung Manis Road and provide a significantly shorter route between these areas.
The bridge’s completion will see a reduction in the journey between Sarikei and Tanjung Manis from 122km to 53km with travel time cut short to just 45 minutes from 2 hours and 30 minutes, previously.
The travel distance from Bintangor to Tanjung Manis will also be reduced significantly to 60km from 108km to 60km, cutting down the travel time to only one hour from the previous two hours. – DayakDaily
