KUCHING, Jan 9: With the opening of the Muara Lassa Bridge, the ferry service at Batang Lassa will be halted completely starting today.

According to a news report by TVS, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said this ferry service might be moved to other areas to meet traffic needs.

He said, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) is currently looking into adding ferry services at Batang Paloh and Batang Igan.

“Traffic is expected to increase in this area when the Muara Lassa Bridge comes into use. The addition of ferry services in both locations could help elevate the surge in traffic until the other bridges in this area are completed, which could be by the end of this year or early next year,” he told members of the media at the pre-launch ceremony of Muara Lassa Bridge.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi, Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab, and Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad.

The Muara Lassa Bridge, built at a construction cost of approximately RM600 million with a length of 2.43 kilometers, is one of the important infrastructure projects that connects Pulau Bruit with Daro in the Mukah Division.

The official inauguration of the bridge is scheduled to take place on Feb 22 and will be officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. – DayakDaily
